What does a color consultant do?
A certified color consultant is a professional who selects colors and color palettes for many industries, including interior design. Color consultants work in the fields of fashion, marketing, graphic design, corporate color specification, and paint color consulting.
What is paint color consulting? As a paint color consultant, I aid in the selection of paint colors for the interior and/or exterior of your home. Essentially, I narrow down the task of reviewing thousands of colors down to the perfect selection for your home.
Who are my clients?
I work mainly with residential homeowners and a select number of commercial accounts.
Are you an interior designer?
While I have a background in interior design, my focus is on color consulting work.
How does a paint color consultation work?
Prior to a color consultation, I talk to you in order to understand the scope of the project and put together a package that suits your needs. We will review the space in need of assistance and determine the number of paint colors we need to complete the project. The preliminary call usually takes about 30 minutes.
During the onsite color consultation, I do a complete walk through of the entire space to notate existing permanent elements in each room. For example, you may be keeping all your furnishings, area rugs and artwork in a living room, so I need to review these elements as I select paint colors.
We walk room by room to select all predetermined paint and/or surface colors, and at the end of the consultation I provide paint color options for final decisions and draw everything up in a report. Your color report is delivered digitally to your email address.
What paint company and tools do you use to specify color?
I work with Benjamin Moore, Behr, Sherwin-Williams and Farrow & Ball. In my office, I have color samples of each of these paint brands. On color consultations, I carry larger samples of the most popular home colors broken down by undertones for easy color evaluation. I work with quality paint brands at a range of product price points to meet your color and product needs.
Do you specify other materials?
I only specify paint colors. However, if you are in need of additional support for other material surfaces such as flooring, tile and hardware, I can assist for an additional fee.
What do you charge for your services?
My rates are based on my experience in the field of color and design, as well as the scope of each project. To determine package rates, I look at square footage, number of rooms, and the number of paint colors needed. Please note that I charge a travel fee for appointments after the first onsite visit.
Do you offer online or digital color consultations?
At this time, I only offer in home color consultations as I find it best to be immersed in the space to find the best color for your space. However, I am looking at options for online color consultations in the future.
